This month we are talking about being Bucket Fillers. In the lower grades we discuss how bucket dipping looks like teasing, not sharing, and name calling for example. In the upper grades, we discuss bullying, gossiping, sportsmanship, and exclusion.

"One" by Kathryn Otoshi is an excellent book to read and discuss the effects of bullying, being a bystander, and working to include everyone.
SwimmyStudents in Grades 1-2 read the book Swimmy and talked about cooperation and teamwork. Each class made a fish out of individual red fish for the students and a black fish for the eye representing the teacher.
We read the book, "Enemy Pie" by Derek Munson. The students then created their own recipes for Friendship Pie instead. Ms. Hynes's class made "Thankful Chains" to spread kindness for all the things they are thankful for in school and in their classroom.
We are working on some exciting class projects in 5th grade! The students in each of the classrooms are creating their own unique project to incorporate technology. Stay tuned for the final products!

Classroom Lessons
I do weekly lessons in Kindergarten and monthly lessons in 2-5 on topics such as Bucketfilling, teamwork, friendship, and dealing with anger. We have also read "The 7 Habits of Happy Kids", by Sean Covey and done lessons to work on each habit.
